The Pant Store Fit Guide

Here’s a little extra information to help you find your best Lustre pant fit.
Alterations and custom sizing are always free. You can also send us your measurements so we can keep them on file for future orders. Our fit recommendations are based on our patterns, our years of experience, and what we’ve learned from dressing thousands of people in-store.
What’s your ratio?
Your waist-to-hip ratio can help us determine which pant styles and sizes will work best for you, and whether an alteration might be helpful.
When we talk about your “ratio,” we’re looking at the difference between your high waist (the smallest part of your torso) and your hips (the fullest part of your hip and butt area).
If you have a prominent belly, angle the measuring tape slightly so that it comfortably goes over both your belly and your fullest point at the back. The tape doesn’t need to sit perfectly parallel to the floor.
A measuring tape hack: If you don’t have a tailor’s measuring tape, you can use an extension cord, piece of wire, or anything long and flexible. Wrap it around your body, mark or hold where the ends meet, then measure that length with a regular carpenter’s tape measure.
For me, my waist is usually around 37–38", depending on the day, and my hips are 47". That gives me roughly a 10" difference, which puts me in the average to high ratio range depending on where my waist is that day.
We typically design our pants with a higher waist-to-hip ratio in mind. But because we see our pieces on so many different bodies, we know that one pattern doesn’t fit everyone in exactly the same way. We’re happy to make adjustments for free based on your proportions, your preferences, and our expertise.

Then, there’s height.
We tend to make our pants on the longer side because hemming is quick and easy. If you’re very tall, however, you may want to choose a custom option so we can make the length just right for you.
Most of our styles work beautifully on taller bodies as they are, but if you have the time, custom sizing allows us to give you the most optimal length from the start.
And then there’s the size chart…
I tried to make a Lustre pant size chart and, oh man, is it ever nuanced. This is exactly why ratio, height, and how you like to feel in your clothes are all so important.
For example, if you have a high waist-to-hip ratio and you’re tall, you might choose a smaller size than someone with the same measurements who is shorter. Their hips can “use up” more of the length, while your proportions may give you more room through the rise and leg.
So, yes, you can absolutely refer to our general size chart, but don’t feel like you have to figure it all out on your own.
You can always message us through the chat box or email us at info@boutiquelustre.com. We’re happy to help you figure out which size, style, or alteration will work best for you.
